DES (DES) Share Update July 2024 Wednesday 31st
DeSoto Resources Upgrades Copper Targets at Spectrum and Fenton SouthDeSoto Resources Limited (ASX:DES) has announced the completion of ground gravity surveys at its Spectrum and Fenton South projects in the Northern Territory, leading to upgraded and refined copper targets.
Instant Summary:
- Completion of high-resolution ground gravity surveys by Atlas Geophysics.
- Upgraded targets at Spectrum (Quantum and Vesper) and Fenton South projects.
- Strong gravity gradient associated with the Fenton Shear Zone (FSZ).
- Coincidence of FSZ with Mobile Metal Iron (MMI) copper soil anomalies.
- Potential for high-grade copper-gold mineralization at Quantum and Vesper.
- Outstanding untested drill target at Fenton South.
Survey Completion and Initial Findings
DeSoto Resources Limited has successfully completed ground gravity surveys at its Spectrum and Fenton South projects. The surveys, conducted by Atlas Geophysics, covered a high-resolution 500m x 125m grid. Preliminary assessment and modeling of the newly acquired gravity data have upgraded and refined targets at both project areas.
The gravity data indicates a strong gravity gradient associated with the Fenton Shear Zone (FSZ), confirming that the Quantum, Vesper, and Fenton South targets are all situated along this zone. These targets are also coincident with zones of NE-SW striking cross faulting, enhancing their prospectivity for copper-gold mineralization.
Emerging Copper Story at Spectrum
At the Spectrum project, the gravity survey has mapped the northern continuation of the FSZ, which truncates and may locally control rare earth element (REE) and gold mineralization at the Quantum target. This structure is interpreted to have at least 8 kilometers of prospective strike coincident with MMI copper soil anomalies. This trend remains largely untested by previous drilling and is considered highly prospective for Mary Kathleen style copper-REE and similar high-grade copper skarn-style mineralization.
At the Vesper target, gravity survey data shows two moderate amplitude residual anomalies coincident with modeled Airborne Electromagnetic (AEM) conductor plates and strong MMI copper anomalies in an area of structural complexity.
Fenton South Geophysical Surveys
At Fenton South, Zonge has completed three loops of the ground Fixed Loop Electromagnetic (FLEM) survey. The gravity data indicates a 1mgal residual gravity anomaly coincident with the Fenton South AEM anomaly, slightly offset from a moderate intensity magnetic anomaly that potentially defines the core of a fold. The eastern margin of the Fenton South gravity anomaly is bounded by a strong gravity gradient, interpreted to be correlated to the mineralized FSZ.
The coincident gravity and AEM anomalies at Fenton South present an outstanding untested drill target for DeSoto's upcoming drill campaign. The company has also been awarded a $160,000 Resourcing the Territory Grant for Fenton South, with details of the drilling program to be announced upon completion and collation of the new ground geophysical data.
Next Steps
DeSoto Resources plans to continue its exploration efforts with ongoing ground FLEM surveys at the Quantum and Vesper targets, followed by ground Induced Polarisation (IP) surveys. At Fenton South, the company is planning an MMI soil geochemical survey to further generate and refine existing targets and assist with geological interpretations. IP surveys will also be collected to further refine conductor targets generated from the FLEM surveys and to assist with geological interpretations. Drill permitting is underway with approvals expected in August, pending finalization of the NT Government's new drilling permitting process.
The upgraded and refined targets at Spectrum and Fenton South are likely to positively impact DeSoto Resources' stock, as the potential for high-grade copper-gold mineralization becomes more apparent. The strong gravity gradient associated with the FSZ and the coincidence with MMI copper soil anomalies suggest significant mineralization potential, which could attract investor interest and drive up stock prices.
Investor Reaction:
Analysts are expected to react positively to the news, given the strong indicators of copper-gold mineralization and the comprehensive geophysical data supporting the targets. The awarding of the $160,000 Resourcing the Territory Grant further bolsters confidence in the company's exploration prospects.
Conclusion:
Investors should keep an eye on DeSoto Resources as the company progresses with its drilling campaigns at Spectrum and Fenton South. The upgraded targets and strong geophysical data suggest significant potential for high-grade copper-gold mineralization, making DeSoto a company to watch in the coming months.
